Gather your wits and join Miss Jane Marple in four delightfully baffling and opulently filmed mysteries starring Joan Hickson - the actress Agatha Christie herself wanted for the role - now lovingly restored from the original film for the first time. In Murder At The Vicarage, the death of a widely despised Colonel in the local vicar's study is made surprisingly more difficult when two different people confess to the crime. In Body In The Library, Miss Marple's neighbors wonder how to explain the young blond woman found strangled on their library floor. A series of anonymously written slanderous letters lead to several mysterious deaths in A Moving Finger, and then in A Murder is Announced, an upcoming murder advertised in a newspaper materializes at a dramatic house party where the only death is the suspect's. Includes special feature A Very Special Murder: Detection Ingenious.

. The The Murder At The Vicarage

The Moving Finger
East Anglia, late 1940s. A nasty case of poison-pen letters brings Miss Marple to the deceptively placid village of Lymston.

The Body In The Library
St Mary Mead, a village nestling in the far-flung reaches of the Home Counties, sometime in the late 1940s.Who is the mystery blonde lying strangled in the library of Gossington Hall? Fortunately for the Bantrys, Miss Marple is their neighbour.

A Murder is Announced
The Cotswolds, the late 1940s.An advertisement is placed in the Chipping Cleghorn Gazette which reads: “A murder is announced and will take place on Friday October 5th at Little Paddocks at seven p.m.” Everyone in town expects a simple party game – until a real corpse is discovered…

Immaculate performances by Joan Hickson
Agatha Christie's Jane Marple portrayed by Joan Hickson is immortalized in the beginning of this series so carefully remastered by BBC, and on Blu-ray! If you have read the mysteries, you very likely have a picture in your mind of what Jane Marple looks like and how she behaves. She doesn't really need the pink woolie, for she is sharp as she is sensible, but you want to wrap her up in a pink woolie to cosset her. The urge is irresistable! BBC is to be commended for preserving this series and with captions too! Many of those watching will be needing them. Enjoy, and enjoy the music of Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley, the pied pipers leading you into an enchanted period of time.

A Better Viewing
I've always enjoy watching Joan Hickson playing Miss Marple and seeing it on Blue-ray disk is an added bonus. I was very pleased to see some of my old favorites in a clearer format. It's almost like watching them for the first.
