Shakespeare fans and scholars may be surprised to discover the total lunacy of the Bard’'s mysterious “lost years,” when Bill Shakespeare, a clueless country lute player, gets kicked out of his Stratford-on-Avon band and follows his dreams to London. Facts meet hilarious farce when Bill’s early attempts at playwriting make him a pawn in the Spanish plot to steal the English throne. You'’ll laugh at the loopiness of this irreverent take on the Bard’s rise to fame, starring Damian Lewis (Wolf Hall, Billions, Homeland) and a wacky, Monty Python-style cast.

Celebrate Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary with this hilarious comedy about the playwright's mysterious lost years. Bill Shakespeare is a hapless lute player with a big dream. When his bandmates kick him out of their group, Bill leaves his wife and kids behind to seek fame and fortune in the big city of London. He'’s written a great work for the stage and he’s certain he’ll prove all his doubters wrong. Little does he know, however, his play is merely a guise for King Phillip II of Spain to try to steal the throne of his mortal enemy, Queen Elizabeth! Laughter abounds in this offbeat Monty Pythonesque farce about everyone's favorite bard. Stars Damian Lewis.

BILL
I bought this as a birthday gift. Was told after I bought it that it would take 4-6 weeks for delivery, when on screen it said something like 3 days. Well, it arrived within a week! I've not heard back from the person that got BILL, but I thought it looked like a great show!

Funny for Shakespeare
"Bill" is a very funny look into Shakespeare's life and times. The extras on the DVD are fun too, they show how they filmed everything in also one location, but it looked like many different areas. Well worth getting!!

Lovely British Humor
Being a Monty Python and Shakespeare fan, I had a notion I would enjoy this show and I did. Very funny, and nice understated humor, as well as sight gags. Lots of Shakespeare's famous lines throughout.

The Bard Would Be Proud
This movie had me in stitches. As a long time Python fan, I could see elements of the same zaniness in 'Bill'. Never have I see Queen Elizabeth portrayed as she was here but I bet it was close to the truth. I'd love to see the further adventures of 'Bill' regardless of playing fast and loose with history. Walsingham was a hoot!

Bill
The movie was campy, but entertaining. Enjoyable, but not overly engaging.

Fun with Bill
Lovers of Shakespeare should enjoy this wonderfully comic look at the Bard's lost years with its deiightful wordplay and udiosyncratic view of history.
