In gritty 1890s Toronto, Detective William Murdoch (Peter Outerbridge, Orphan Black) uses new forensic techniques to solve the murders of a young chambermaid, a colleague on the force, and a backstreet abortionist.

With the help of beguiling coroner Dr. Julia Ogden (Keeley Hawes, Ashes to Ashes, Line of Duty), Murdoch sifts through the evidence, looking for even the smallest clue. This isn’t always easy for the principled and empathetic detective, especially when his superior, Inspector Brackenreid (Colm Meaney, Star Trek: The Next Generation), is constantly at his heels to close the case quickly. Along the way, Murdoch develops a bittersweet bond with Ettie (Flora Montgomery, Endeavour), a tempting-but-taboo prostitute who acts as a police informant.

Episode 1: Except the Dying When a young chambermaid’s body is found in the streets, Murdoch sets out to solve the crime with the help of Constable Oliver Wicken and forensic scientist Dr. Julia Ogden. But Inspector Brackenreid pressures him to work more quickly after the chief constable takes notice of the case. As he hunts for clues in both the basest of brothels and the swankiest of gentlemen’s clubs, Murdoch races to catch the culprit before he claims another victim.

Disc 2
Episode 2: Poor Tom Is Cold Murdoch’s colleague is found dead, his body smelling of a whiskey-fueled suicide. However, Murdoch believes the case itself reeks of foul play and centers his investigation on the sinister Eakin family. Prostitute Ettie helps Murdoch get the lead he’s been looking for.

Disc 3
Episode 3: Under the Dragon’s Tail When abortionist Dolly Shaw is killed, she leaves behind three young wards with mysterious pasts.
