After seizing a French slave ship and renaming her The Queen Anne’s Revenge, he leads his flotilla, crewed by some 300 men, through the Caribbean, developing a reputation for frightening ferocity, built on rumours of a pirate captain who resembles the devil.
Blackbeard and his men capture many ships, before relaxing in portside taverns – where their attention is diverted by a parade of young ladies eager to relieve the men of their money. He sails to the height of his terrifying career when he and his ships lay siege to the port of Charleston.
