What stories you’ll tell when you wear this bronze piece of history! First minted in silver by Henry III in the 13th century, the farthing has been part of British life for more than 800 years. During Queen Victoria’s reign, a copper farthing bought three oysters with bread and butter from a London oyster-seller. The coin gradually shrank in size and value, so that—just before Edward VIII abdicated in 1936—the Royal Mint convinced him to display the smallest British bird on the coin of smallest value. That’s why farthings minted from 1937 to 1952 show Edward’s successor and brother, George VI, on one side, and a tiny wren on the other. Sterling silver and bronze. Pendant: 7/8"dia; swivels to show both sides. Necklace: 18"
