1717: the golden age of piracy. In a tavern in the Bahamas, the leading pirate captains of the day catch up on the latest news. The most intimidating of them all, known as Blackbeard, signs up a new First Mate before going in search of bigger prey than his crew might be used to. After seizing a French slave ship and renaming her The Queen Anne’s Revenge, he leads his flotilla, crewed by some 300 men, through the Caribbean, developing a reputation for frightening ferocity, built on rumours of a pirate captain who resembles the devil.

Blackbeard and his men capture many ships, before relaxing in portside taverns – where their attention is diverted by a parade of young ladies eager to relieve the men of their money. He sails to the height of his terrifying career when he and his ships lay siege to the port of Charleston. Just weeks later he claims a Royal Pardon, but the ruthless voyage of plunder which sealed his reputation, is also destined to lead to his downfall...
