  • Set amidst the Victorian splendor of Britain's first department store, The Paradise is a rags-to-riches story of a young girl who falls in love with the intoxicating charms of the modern world. As Denise (Joanna Vanderham, Dancing on the Edge, What Maisie Knew) finds her feet as a lowly shopgirl, she must navigate her way through power struggles, intrigues and affairs. When the shop's dashing and reckless owner, John Moray (Emun Elliot, Game of Thrones, Prometheus) spots her talents she knows she can use this opportunity to rise to great things. In a world as colorful and captivating as the silks on display in the store, The Paradise is a love story with a mysterious, dark secret at its heart.

Denise Lovett may look the part of a country bumpkin when she arrives penniless and in search of work at the doors of The Paradise, Britain's glamorous first department store. But before long, intoxicated by the potential of the modern world, she will turn her ambitious and inspired eye to the store's ladieswear department, meanwhile catching the eye of the shop's dashing and reckless owner, John Moray, a grieving widower with a secret. Enigmatic and shrewd, Moray embodies the modern era that he is ushering into the bustling Northern town in the form of petticoats and perfume. But what remains to be seen is whether those around him – the pampered heiress who mistakes hooks for heart, the sinister store detective whose loyalty knows no bounds, or the demure Denise herself, fighting to keep her ideas and her love from brimming over – will help or hinder the fulfillment of his grand ambition.

    Episode 1
Bright and ambitious country girl Denise Lovett adapts to snubs and snobbery in the ladieswear department at the glittering department store, The Paradise, while its dashing and enigmatic owner, Moray, works to secure a loan from the powerful banker, Lord Glendenning. Moray is courting his daughter, Katherine, who is so supremely confident that she is immune to the rumours surrounding the mysterious death of his wife. But Denise, with her sharp intellect and curiosity, is drawn to the mystery and the man, whom in her admiration she is anxious to impress. A brilliant marketing promotion and a shopaholic aristocrat soon provide her with the opportunity, while simultaneously cementing new friendships and forming new rivalries.

    Episode 2
When Denise finds an abandoned baby boy in ladieswear, Moray finds a fresh marketing opportunity, Lady Katherine finds a new suitor, and Clara finds a vulnerability that she'd long since buried. Denise's newest idea for The Paradise bumps up against the formidable Miss Audrey and requires a cunning, but risky, path to Moray's ear.

    Episode 3
From haberdashery to ladieswear, every wonder is to be had at The Paradise, it seems, except for reciprocated love. Peter Adler distracts Lady Katherine from Moray, the man she can't have, but will she settle for her beloved's friend? Only Miss Audrey appears immune – instead, she suffers from a mysterious illness. It will take the empathy and ingenuity of a surprising team to bring her back to health.

    Episode 4
Moray's ambitions hit a road bump in the form of Bradley Burroughs, the barber, while Edmund's ambitions get a boost from Katherine as she toys with Moray. As Denise executes another bold idea, Jonas graduates from prowling to a more active role in protecting Moray's interests.

    Episode 5
Love is in the air when cages of exotic lovebirds arrive as The Paradise's latest attraction. But Miss Audrey cautions Denise to suppress and silence her feelings, and Dudley pressures Moray to take the plunge with Katherine. At The Paradise, it seems, birds are the only uncomplicated love pairing. Meanwhile, the sinister Jonas operates alone.

    Episode 6
Denise summons all her ingenuity, pluck and cunning to face the biggest challenge of her career: uniting the curmudgeonly traders of Tollgate Street. But another union requires cunning of a different sort from the powerful and influence-wielding Katherine. Will it be enough to secure Moray? Glendenning, seeing Moray and Denise together, is uneasy.

    Episode 7
A big day approaches for Moray, and The Paradise's staff anticipates the spectacular event with excitement and for some, dread. Trouble brews, suspicion grows, and the missing barber resurfaces. Katherine makes her move, and moral dilemmas paralyze a beholden Moray and a selfless Denise, for whom everything is at stake.
